Survival Tactic (I) is a from a series of collages made by Libeskind which use imagery from a variety of books such as, 1970's East German Police training, early 1990's American doomsday prepping guides, and environmental photographs published alongside the Nuclear Waste Policy Act, during the Reagan presidency.
The collages are often made on a scanner bed, with multiple iterations of each work - Libeskind then prints them on a number of non-traditional plastic surfaces (foam, PVC, acrylic, latex, etc). The printing process often subverts the legibility of the original composition, allowing the final work to exist as a palimpsest or fossil, encased in a custom made vitrine.
